This contribution shares the evidence of the extent intra-party democracy allows for the inclusion of women in electoral politics. It includes evidence from the SADC countries. It concludes that the PR system is more likely to deliver more women candidates but that it is not a guarantee. The combination of a PR system with a quota system, preferably constitutional or legislated, is the best recipe for ensuring the desired result.
