Director FBDM Guido Riveros deceased

30 May 2012

It is with great sadness that NIMD has to inform you that our colleague and director of our long standing partner FBDM in Bolivia, Guido Riveros, suddenly passed away on Monday suffering a heart attack. His funeral took place yesterday.

Guido has been the driving force behind the Bolivian Foundation for Multiparty Democracy (FBDM) since its very start in 2002. After heading the Board of the FBDM for several years he became the Director of the FBDM and has since then played a decisive role in sustaining multiparty dialogue in Bolivia. His contribution has been of particularly importance when Bolivia experienced a severe political crisis around the Bolivian Constitutional Reform Process in 2008. His passing away means that the NIMD network, Latin America and especially Bolivia have lost a true believer in and fighter for inclusive multiparty democracy. Our memories are with his wife, children and all related to the FBDM.

NIMD will be represented in Bolivia during the coming days by Programme Manager Jan Tuit en Director of Programmes Pepijn Gerrits. They pay our respects to Guido’s family and the colleagues of the FBDM. In case you would like to send a personal message to the FBDM and/or Guido’s family please use one of the following two addresses:
fubodem@fbdm.org.bo or fubodem@yahoo.es

Warm regards,

Hans Bruning
Executive Director NIMD
