Countries emerging form violent conflict, figure prominently on the NIMD agenda. Our work with partners in post conflict societies often focuses on discerning and fine-tuning the preparations for a multiparty platfrom.
Another central aim of the post-conflict and fragile states programme is to strengthen the NIMD knowledge base regarding political parties in post-conflict situations, and to help establish a thematic basis of trust for democracy assistance within those societies.
Georgia
In the run up to the parliamentary elections in May 2008, the NIMD programme in Georgia has helped political parties formulate their policy programmes, using the voter education tool VoteMatch, developed by the Dutch Institute for Political Participation (IPP).(...more)
Indonesia
In partnership with the Jakarta-based Indonesian Community for Democracy (KID), NIMD supports a national inter-party dialogue programme in which seven political parties participate, and a political education programme, consisting of Democracy Schools in five regions, where young politicians, social activists, and professionals are trained in democratic values and practices.(...more)
