On October 29 Njeri Kabeberi, Director of the Kenyan Centre for Multiparty Democracy (CMD-K) will receive a Human Rights Award from the Chamber of Lawyers of Frankfurt am Main.
The Award is granted annually to "individuals who have excelled in courageously defending the rights of the citizen, unmindful of possible harm and hindrance in their own professional life". The Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD) congratulates Ms Kabeberi and CMD-K with the Award.
"We are very pleased that Njeri is receiving such international recognition for her personal commitment and professional dedication to peace, justice and democracy in Kenya", says NIMD Executive Director Roel von Meijenfeldt. "With her staff at CMD-K and fellow activists Ms Kabeberi have worked with courage, vision and immense self-sacrifice to bring dialogue and reconciliation in the aftermath of the election violence that struck Kenya in December 2007. At NIMD, we are honoured and proud to support and cooperate with Ms Kabeberi and her colleagues in their relentless efforts to build a real democratic Kenya."
