KID acquires the funding under a contract with Kemitraan/Partnership, a large funding organisation, in which international donors and the Indonesian government participate.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Netherlands Ambassador and his staff, as well as the Indonesian Ministers for Internal Affairs and National Planning.

In the years to come, KID will utilize the Kemitraan funds to expand the number of Democracy Schools (SDs) it runs from five to ten. So far, SDs are operational in Palembang (South Sumatra), Banten (West Java), Malang/Batu (East Java), Jeneponto (South Sulawesi) and Lembata (Nusa Tenggara Timur; NTT).

This year KID will set up three new schools in Papua, Aceh and Pontianak - all three to a considerable extent conflict-prone areas. Most likely the SDs there will be operational as of the beginning of 2011. In the course of the year, KID will decide upon the locations of the other two new schools.
