The Ministry of Foreign Affairs allocates a 4 year subsidy to NIMD
The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs has allocated € 30,177,500 to the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD) for the coming 4 years. NIMD tendered for the Political Parties Fund II in August this year. The subsidy framework entails the period of 2012 – 2015.
"I am very proud NIMD shows its added value by receiving this new subsidy." says Hans Bruning, Executive Director of NIMD. "Due to this allocation of funding, the work of NIMD and its programmes are secured for the near future. Despite this funding, NIMD will invest in fundraising to secure other sources of financing."
In 2011, NIMD has initiated strategic partnerships with International IDEA in Sweden and the Association of European Parliamentarians with Africa (AWEPA) based in Amsterdam. Due to the nature of our work we feel all organisations will benefit profoundly from this partnership.
As a result of this new 4-year subsidy, NIMD will be able to continue its unique and successful work of democracy assistance in young democracies on its 3 main objectives:
- A functioning inter party dialogue
- Representative political parties
- A fruitful interaction between political and civil society
Due to reforms in the Dutch development cooperation policy – it focuses on 15 instead of the previous 33 partner countries – NIMD’s programme country list needed some adjustments. Most of NIMD’s programmes are already set in the new partner countries and some new programmes will be initiated based on the new country list.
NIMD will continue its programmes in the following countries: Bolivia, Burundi, Colombia, Ecuador, Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Uganda, Zimbabwe and the region Central America.
The following programmes are or will be initiated: Benin (with AWEPA and International IDEA), Egypt, Tunisia and South Sudan (with International IDEA).
For the programmes in Tanzania and Georgia new donors will be attracted. NIMD will try and support these programmes through other means.
