During the 2007 Partnership Days in September NIMD and its international partners discussed the partnership relation. Ownership and performance were identified as key elements.
The biennial Partnership Days brought together the leadership of political parties and co-ordinating institutions from 17 countries from Eurasia, Africa, Latin America and The Netherlands from 10 September - 13 September 2007.
Partnership for performance
The conference resolved that there should be continued support of political parties based on the principals of ownership and performance-based partnership with strict criteria for judging the quality of proposals and the accountability of funds.
Amongst the key challenges ahead the conference identified the institutionalisation of the centres for multiparty democracy (CMDs) in partner countries, mainstreaming of the political reform agenda, and securing external funding from sources other than NIMD and knowledge sharing.
Best practices
The participants shared experiences, achievements, and developments with regard to the NIMD programmes in each of the 17 countries. Politicians from NIMD programme countries further discussed issues such internal party democracy with their Dutch counterparts while political youth organisations from Kenya, Ghana, Tanzania and The Netherlands convened in the headquarters of the Young Liberals to exchange their experiences and discuss their relations with political parties.
During the Partnership Days NIMD celebrated the farewell of Prof Dr Jos van Kemenade who left as NIMD President after 5 years.
