More elected female politicians and more attention to gender issues in government policies. That is the message of the national conference for women in politics on 2 August 2007 in Guatemala. Judith Sargentini (GreenLeft) reports on behalf of NIMD.
In September 2007 the people of Guatemala will cast their votes in the general elections. In the run-up to this event, women from the entire political spectrum gather at a national conference in the capital Guatemala to discuss the “Accord among women in politics”. This document will contain the most relevant issues for women in Guatemala to be addressed by those in power and will be an important reference document for new legislation concerning gender issues.

The conference is part of the Full Citizenship for Women project which is supported by NIMD in Guatemala since 2006.
