The 2008 ESARP Round Table was held December 3-4 in The Hague to discuss matters related to the regional programme.

Participants from several programme countries had a chance to reflect jointly and consultatively on the lessons and achievements so far as well as the work ahead.

Specifically the meeting reviewed the programme activities of ESARP 2008 as well as looking ahead to the coming programme year. In this regard, the meeting paid special attention to the outcomes of the sessions and how the issues discussed can be further pursued in the respective country or by the regional programme.

In light of regional developments this year including experiences in Malawi and Tanzania, the meeting also critically reflected on the peer-review programmes, the exchange programmes and discussed ways in which these programmes can be improved upon.

Consistent with its basic idea of acting as a regional knowledge center the regional programmes round table concluded with a discussion of preliminary results of the comparative study on the role of CMDs in electoral process with reference to the case study of CMD-K and CMD-M.

A full report and communique of the 2008 conference outcomes will be published in January 2009.
