Dr Bernard Bot (1937) is the President of the NIMD Supervisory Board since 1 June 2007, when he took over from Prof. Dr. Jos van Kemenade.
Dr Bot has an elaborate career in the diplomatic service of the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with representative positions to the European Communities, Argentine, East-Germany, NATO, European Union and an ambassadorship in Turkey.
From December 2003 to February 2007 he was the Minister of Foreign Affairs in two consecutive Cabinets Balkenende II and III.
He is a partner of the Praaning Meines Consultancy Group and holds various other positions including member of the Board of Patron's of European Partnership for Democracy (EPD), Chairman of the Board of the Clingendael Insitute and President of the Carnegie Foundation of the Peace Palace in The Hague.
Dr Bot has been awarded two Dutch royal orders (Knight of the Order of the Netherlands Lion and Officer of the Order of Orange Nassau) and several foreign orders.
